Lateral and frontal lisps are among the most common and persistent articulation errors SLPs treat, yet many clinicians get stuck teaching "closer approximations" rather than true correction. This 2-hour webinar covers practical strategies for eliciting, shaping, and generalizing accurate production of /s/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/, as well as their voiced cognates, across the lifespan. You will learn how the core techniques of phonetic shaping and cognitive reframing can also apply to other challenging distortions like nasal fricatives and ingressive sounds. Updated literature and real therapy session footage are included throughout.

You'll learn to:

  1. Identify key components of a speech assessment that can help SLPs identify or rule out underlying structural/functional impairments
  2. Apply phonetic shaping techniques to elicit non-distorted productions using coarticulation with correctly produced sounds
  3. Use cognitive reframing to help clients replace habituated error patterns with new motor plans, rather than "fixing" the distorted sound.
  4. Describe strategies for carryover and generalization of corrected productions across word positions and into spontaneous speech.
