This 2-hour course will teach you exactly how to choose the most effective treatment approach based on what your assessment reveals. We’ll break down when to use phonological interventions, when an articulation approach makes more sense, and when motor-based methods are the better fit. You’ll also get a brief, practical overview of each approach with links and recommendations for where to learn more. You’ll walk away with a concise, evidence-guided roadmap for selecting the right intervention for each child you serve.
You'll learn to:
- Differentiate phonological interventions from motor-based treatment approaches.
- Identify when it's appropriate to use specific phonological approaches, including minimal pairs, multiple oppositions, complexity, cycles, and core vocabulary.
- Summarize key components of articulation-based interventions (e.g., speech motor chaining) and determine when they are appropriate.
- Describe distinguishing features of motor-based approaches for CAS and dysarthria, including DTTC, ReST, and other movement-focused methods.
- Determine when to use approaches for children with very limited phonetic inventories, including the stimulability approach.
